Rain wreaked havoc with the Sunday schedule in the Shore Firemen’s Slow Pitch Softball League as the heavy early-morning shower caused all games to be postponed.
With the regular season scheduled to end next Sunday (July 22), the firemen will be scrambling to get all the games in before the end of the season. The league bylaws state all games must be made up before the end of the regular season.
Monmouth Beach and Oceanport will be scurrying around for a suitable date. The teams were slated to play a doubleheader Sunday, but after a fruitless effort, the games were called off.
The battle for first place is still being closely contested with four teams in the hunt, with Fair Haven closing fast in the stretch.
Fair Haven will have a big game this Sunday when it hosts Monmouth Beach. The game will be played at Youth Center North. Fair Haven has four wins and is just below the .500 mark and still has a mathematical chance of gaining a playoff slot.
Eatontown will be home at 80 Acres and will be out to preserve its lofty standing against Oceanic, of Rumson. The latter dropped an extra inning decision to Monmouth Beach the last time out which dropped it into fourth place.
