Malone open space bill
released by committee

Legislation sponsored by Assemblyman Joseph R. Malone III (R-30th District) was recently released by the Assembly Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.

The bill, A-3517, appropriates $58 million from the Garden State Green Acres Preservation Trust Fund to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to provide funding for the acquisition by the state of open space for recreation and conservation purposes.

"In a state as densely populated as New Jersey, it is important that we continue to preserve as much as we possibly can," said Malone, who represents parts of Burlington, Monmouth and Ocean counties. "Everyone should be able to enjoy our parks and recreational areas, and this funding makes that possible. Residents of the 30th Legislative District will benefit greatly from this endeavor."

The projects listed below have been approved by the DEP and the Garden State Preservation Trust.

• Barnegat Bay Watershed Greenway – Monmouth and Ocean counties including Howell, Jackson, and Lakewood.

• Crossroads of the American Revolution (Princeton Battlefield to Monmouth) – Monmouth County including Allentown, Roosevelt and Upper Freehold Township.

• Historic Resources (Allaire State Park) – Howell Township in Monmouth County.

• Pinelands – Jackson Township in Ocean County.

• Trails – (Capitol to Coast) Monmouth County including Howell, Roosevelt, and Upper Freehold Township. (Rails to Trails) Plumsted Township in Ocean County.

The measure was released by a committee vote of 6-0 and now heads to the Assembly Appropriations Committee for consideration.
